Peroxiredoxin (Prx)는 세포 증식, 분화, 세포사와 관련된 퍼옥시다제 계열에 속합니다. 약 50종의 isoform이 존재하며, 활성 부위 cysteine 잔기와 thiol-specific 항산화 활성을 가지고 있습니다.
포유류 Prx는 6개의 멤버로 구성되며, typical 2-Cys, atypical 2-Cys, 1-Cys Prx로 분류됩니다. Prx VI는 1-Cys Prx subgroup에 속하며, 나머지 2-Cys Prx는 thioredoxin-dependent peroxidase (TPx) 활성을 가집니다.
포유류 Prx는 분자량 20–30 kDa이며, 세포 내 분포는 다음과 같습니다:
