EIF2AK3 (PERK)는 다양한 환경적 스트레스에 반응하여 번역 개시 인자 eIF2-alpha의 Ser51을 인산화하는 4가지 키나아제 중 하나입니다. EIF2AK3의 신호 전달은 소포체 내 잘못 접힌 단백질에 의해 시작됩니다.
EIF2AK3 유전자 결함은 Wolcott-Rallison syndrome(WRS)의 원인으로, 이는 조기 발병 당뇨병, 골단 이형성, 성장 지연, 간·신장 기능 이상 등을 특징으로 하는 희귀 열성 유전 질환입니다.
