Target Information
Phosphoinositide-specific phospholipase C (PLC) plays a crucial role in receptor-mediated signal transduction by generating two second messengers, inositol 1,4,5-triphosphate and diacylglycerol, from phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate.
There are multiple mammalian PLC isozymes, including PLCβ1–β4, PLCγ1–γ2, PLCδ1–δ2, and PLCε.
PLCδ1 acts as a calcium signal amplifier and is activated by an atypical GTP-binding protein. It functions as an effector for GTP-binding protein transglutaminase II-mediated oxytocin receptor and α1B-adrenoreceptor signaling.
Mouse PLCδ1 is highly expressed in brain, heart, lung, and testis. Abnormal accumulation of PLCδ is observed in Alzheimer’s disease brains, suggesting a potential role in AD pathology.
PLCδ2 expression is associated with gastric malignant transformation and may serve as a potential biomarker.
