Product Specific Information
This antibody recognizes human LARGE1, a glycosyltransferase expressed mainly in the Golgi apparatus. Cross-reactivity with LARGE2 was not determined.
Target Information
The LARGE gene encodes a member of the N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase family involved in glycosylation of alpha-dystroglycan. It may participate in the synthesis of glycoprotein and glycosphingolipid sugar chains and in the addition of repeated disaccharide units. Mutations in this gene cause MDC1D, a congenital muscular dystrophy with severe mental retardation and abnormal glycosylation of alpha-dystroglycan. Alternative splicing results in two transcript variants encoding the same protein.
