Target Information
The OLIG2 gene encodes a basic helix-loop-helix transcription factor expressed in oligodendroglial brain tumors. This protein regulates ventral neuroectodermal progenitor cell fate and is involved in chromosomal translocation t(14;21)(q11.2;q22) associated with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
Chromosomal location: chromosome 21, a region implicated in learning deficits associated with Down syndrome.
Tissue specificity: Expressed in the brain, particularly in oligodendrocytes. Strongly expressed in oligodendrogliomas, weak to moderate in astrocytomas, and variably in glioblastomas.
