Target Information

IKBKE is an activator of nuclear factor-kappa-B (NF-κB). Overexpression of IKBKE has been observed in breast cancer cells, and suppression of IKBKE induces cell death. NF-κB is a ubiquitous transcription factor and an essential mediator of gene expression during immune and inflammatory responses. It mediates the expression of many genes in response to extracellular stimuli and is regulated by IκB proteins in the cytoplasm. IκB is phosphorylated by the IκB kinase (IKK) complex, which includes IKK-α, IKK-β, and IKK-γ. A novel component of the IKK complex, IKK-ε (also known as IKK-iota/IKK-i), is required for NF-κB activation by PMA and T-cell receptors but not by TNF-α or IL-1. IKK-ε expression is inducible by TNF-α, IL-1, and LPS in various tissues.
