Target Information
This gene encodes an activating transcription factor belonging to the ATF subfamily and bZIP (basic-region leucine zipper) family. It regulates expression of downstream target genes involved in cell growth, survival, and other physiological processes.
Phosphorylation at serine 63 by various kinases enhances its transcriptional activity and contributes to cell transformation.
Chromosomal translocations involving this gene and FUS (chromosome 16) or EWSR1 (chromosome 22) generate chimeric proteins associated with angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma and clear cell sarcoma.
A pseudogene is located on chromosome 6.
