- For reconstitution, add 100 µL distilled water to achieve a final antibody concentration of approximately 1 mg/mL.
- For conjugation experiments using this carrier-free antibody, perform an additional round of desalting using Zeba Spin Desalting Columns (7K MWCO, 0.5 mL, Product #89882).
Target Information
Interleukin 8 (IL-8, CXCL8) is a 72 amino acid pro-inflammatory factor belonging to the CXC subfamily of chemokines. It binds to cell surface receptors IL-8RA and IL-8RB and functions as a chemoattractant and potent angiogenic factor.
IL-8 expression and secretion are induced by various inflammatory stimuli in many cell types, including macrophages and endothelial cells. In endothelial cells, IL-8 is stored in Weibel-Palade bodies.
Originally isolated from osteosarcoma cells, IL-8 contains the ELR motif (N-terminal Glu-Leu-Arg sequence) and signals through CXCR1 and CXCR2 receptors.
Previous nomenclatures include neutrophil activating protein 1 (NAP-1), granulocyte chemotactic protein 1 (GCP-1), monocyte-derived neutrophil-activating peptide (MONAP), and protein 3-10C.
IL-8 and ten other members of the CXC chemokine gene family form a cluster mapped to chromosome 4q.
Cancer studies have demonstrated IL-8’s role in angiogenesis and tumor growth, and it is implicated in the pathogenesis of bronchiolitis caused by viral infection.
