P2Y6는 G 단백질 결합 수용체(GPCR) 계열에 속하며, 다양한 아데노신 및 유리딘 뉴클레오타이드에 선택적으로 반응하는 여러 수용체 아형이 존재합니다. 본 수용체는 UDP에 반응하며, UTP 및 ADP에는 부분적으로 반응하고 ATP에는 반응하지 않습니다.
P2Y6 발현은 혈액 세포, 골수, 뇌, 결장, 심장, 신장, 난소, 태반, 비장, 흉선 등에서 보고되었습니다. 또한 자궁경부, 배아, 안구, 신장, 간/비장, 혈관 등의 EST 라이브러리에서도 확인되었습니다.
