Target Information
AMPK beta-1 is a regulatory subunit of the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK), a heterotrimeric enzyme composed of alpha (catalytic), beta, and gamma (non-catalytic) subunits.
AMPK acts as a key energy sensor regulating cellular metabolism. Upon activation under metabolic stress, it phosphorylates and inactivates key enzymes such as acetyl-CoA carboxylase (ACC) and HMG-CoA reductase (HMGCR), controlling fatty acid and cholesterol biosynthesis.
The beta-1 subunit may positively regulate AMPK activity and serve as an adaptor mediating complex assembly. Its myristoylation and phosphorylation influence AMPK localization and activity.
