Target Information
Nuclear factor kB p65 (NF-kB p65), encoded by the RELA gene on chromosome 11 (human), is also known as RelA (v-rel avian reticuloendotheliosis viral oncogene homolog A). It belongs to the Rel family of proteins and forms part of the NF-kB complex, heterodimerizing with subunits p50 or p52.
Upon TNF-alpha binding, IKK is phosphorylated, which in turn phosphorylates IκB, leading to its proteasomal degradation. NF-kB p65 plays a key role in the transcription of the immunoglobulin κ (kappa) gene in mature B-lymphoid cells.
