Target Information
Huntingtin disease, a neurodegenerative disorder, is caused by expansion of a polymorphic glutamine tract in huntingtin. Huntingtin Interacting Protein 1 (HIP-1) is a proapoptotic, cargo-specific adaptor protein potentially involved in the pathogenesis of Huntingtin disease. HIP-1 also participates in clathrin coat recruitment to lipid membranes and may contribute to tumorigenesis by promoting survival of precancerous and cancerous cells. Its expression is associated with prostate and colon cancer metastasis, making HIP-1 a putative prognostic factor for these cancers.
