SOX2는 SRY-related HMG-box (SOX) 계열 전사인자로, 배아 발생 및 세포 운명 결정에 관여합니다. 중추신경계의 줄기세포 유지에 필수적이며, 위 조직에서 유전자 발현을 조절합니다. SOX2 유전자는 SOX2OT 유전자의 인트론 내에 위치하며, 다른 단백질과 복합체를 형성하여 전사 활성화 인자로 작용할 수 있습니다. SOX2 유전자 변이는 양측 무안증, 시신경 저형성, 미소안증 등의 안구 발달 이상과 관련이 있습니다.
