Target Information
Complex II of the respiratory chain is specifically involved in the oxidation of succinate and carries electrons from FADH to CoQ. This complex comprises four nuclear-encoded subunits localized in the mitochondrial inner membrane.
The iron-sulfur subunit is highly conserved and contains three cysteine-rich clusters which may comprise the iron-sulfur centers of the enzyme.
Mutations in this gene are associated with paragangliomas and pheochromocytoma, linking mitochondrial dysfunction to tumorigenesis.
