Product Specific Information
PA1-915 detects calcium pump of the plasma membrane 2 (PMCA2 ATPase) from human, rat, and porcine tissues and cells.
It has been successfully used in Western blot procedures, detecting ~127 kDa and ~133 kDa proteins representing PMCA2a and PMCA2b ATPases from rat brain microsomal fractions.
The immunizing peptide corresponds to amino acid residues 5–19 from human PMCA2 ATPase, which is completely conserved between human and rat.
Target Information
PMCA ATPase (Plasma Membrane Calcium ATPase) pumps calcium from the cytosol to the extracellular space. This enzyme is related to other ATPases such as SERCA and Na⁺/K⁺ pumps.
There are four genes encoding PMCA ATPase, with about 20 isoforms generated through alternative splicing.
Isoform expression is tissue-specific: PMCA1 and PMCA4 are broadly expressed, while PMCA2 and PMCA3 are more restricted.
In the pancreas, β cells express only the 4b isoform, whereas α and γ cells express both 4a and 4b isoforms.
Different splice variants exhibit distinct affinities for calcium and calmodulin.
