Product Specific Information
- Immunohistochemistry (PFA fixed): Incubate antibody for 30 min at room temperature.
- Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA, pH 9.0, for 45 min at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.
Target Information
BCL-2 is a key regulator of apoptosis that can inhibit or promote cell death. Members of the BCL-2 family dimerize to modulate apoptosis.
Bag1 forms a heterodimer with BCL-2 to enhance its anti-apoptotic effect, whereas Bax and Bak promote cytochrome c release from mitochondria, initiating apoptosis.
Constitutive expression of BCL-2, such as translocation to the Ig heavy chain locus, is linked to follicular lymphoma.
In follicular lymphoma, neoplastic germinal centers express high levels of BCL-2 alpha protein, while normal germinal centers are negative.
Two transcript variants of BCL-2 differ in their C-terminal ends. Overexpression of BCL-2 is associated with human cancers including B-cell lymphoma and prostate cancer.
