Galectin-3는 IgE 결합을 매개하는 갈락토스 특이적 렉틴으로, α3β1 인테그린과 함께 CSPG4에 의한 내피세포 이동 자극을 매개할 수 있습니다. DMBT1과 함께 초기 배아 발생 중 원주상피세포의 최종 분화를 위해 필요합니다.
핵 내에서는 pre-mRNA 스플라이싱 인자로 작용하며, 급성 염증 반응(호중구 활성화, 단핵구/대식세포 유인, 아폽토시스된 호중구 옵소닌화, 비만세포 활성화 등)에 관여합니다.
