Target Information
This gene encodes a protein identified in a screen for genes expressed in metastatic cells, particularly mammary adenocarcinoma cell lines. Expression correlates with metastatic potential in multiple carcinoma types but is also found in many normal tissues. Its role in metastasis remains unclear.
Initially thought to be the 70 kDa component of the NuRD complex, it is now believed to be a distinct but related protein. Both share similar domains, including DNA-binding, dimerization, and methylation-related regions, suggesting involvement in transcriptional regulation via chromatin remodeling.
