PRKACB (PKA catalytic subunit C-beta)는 Ser/Thr protein kinase family에 속하며, 인간 염색체 1p36.1 위치에 존재합니다. C-alpha 및 C-gamma와 구별되는 유전자로부터 유래하며, 조직 특이적 발현을 보입니다. C-alpha와 C-beta는 아미노산 수준에서 93%의 상동성을 가집니다.
비활성형 AMPK holoenzyme은 두 개의 조절 서브유닛과 두 개의 촉매 서브유닛으로 구성되어 있으며, cAMP 결합 시 활성화되어 촉매 서브유닛이 방출됩니다. 인간에서는 네 가지 조절 서브유닛과 세 가지 촉매 서브유닛이 확인되었습니다.
