Product Specific Information
This antibody recognizes muscle-specific alpha and gamma actin (42 kDa) in various species.
It stains skeletal, smooth, and myocardial cells as well as myoepithelial cells and pericytes of small vessels.
It is a widely used marker of muscle and muscle-derived cells.
- Western Blot: Reducing conditions recommended
- Immunohistochemistry (Paraffin): Antigen retrieval steps generally not required; pepsin or trypsin pretreatment recommended for arterial smooth muscle cells or myoepithelial cells
Target Information
Actin belongs to a highly conserved family of proteins involved in cell motility, structure, and integrity.
Alpha, beta, and gamma actin isoforms have distinct roles:
- Alpha actins: Major constituent of the contractile apparatus
- Beta and gamma actins: Regulate cell motility
This actin is an alpha actin found in skeletal muscle.
Mutations in this gene are associated with various congenital myopathies, including nemaline myopathy type 3 and congenital myopathy with fiber-type disproportion.
