Target Information
MAP2K1 (MEK1) kinase is a dual-specificity protein kinase that functions in the mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) cascade, regulating cell growth and differentiation.
It is activated by various growth factors, cytokines, membrane depolarization, and calcium influx.
Phosphorylation of serine residues 218 and 222 by Raf1 activates MEK1.
MAP2K1 is involved in stress response signaling, apoptosis, and cytokine-induced proliferation.
Mutations in this gene are associated with cardiofaciocutaneous syndrome.
