Target Information
ATG10 is involved in autophagy, a process for bulk degradation of cytosolic compartments by lysosomes/vacuoles. The formation of autophagosomes involves dynamic membrane rearrangements requiring two ubiquitin-like modifications:
- Conjugation of APG12p
- Modification of MAP-LC3 to a membrane-bound form
ATG10 functions as an E2-like enzyme essential for autophagosome formation, mediating ATG12–ATG5 conjugation and MAP-LC3 modification. It is ubiquitously expressed, and the human APG10L gene is localized on chromosome 5q14.2.
