ATG10은 자가포식(autophagy) 과정에 관여하는 단백질로, 세포질 성분을 리소좀 또는 액포를 통해 분해하는 과정에 필수적인 역할을 합니다.
자가포식소체(autophagosome) 형성에는 두 가지 유비퀴틴 유사 변형(APG12p 결합 및 MAP-LC3의 막결합형 변형)이 필요하며, ATG10은 이 과정에서 E2 유사 효소로 작용합니다.
ATG10은 ATG12-ATG5 결합과 MAP-LC3(MAP1LC3A)의 막결합형 변형에 관여하며, 인간 APG10L 유전자는 염색체 5q14.2에 위치합니다.
본 단백질은 다양한 조직에서 보편적으로 발현됩니다.
