Target Information
Aquaporins (AQP0–AQP10) are membrane proteins that facilitate water transport across cell membranes.
- AQP3, AQP7, AQP9, and one AQP10 transcript also transport urea and glycerol.
- AQP2 is activated by vasopressin in kidney collecting ducts.
- Aquaporins are involved in renal water absorption, pulmonary secretion, lacrimation, and cerebrospinal fluid regulation.
- In lungs, AQP5 mediates water transport across the apical membrane of type I alveolar epithelial cells.
