Cyclin T1은 cyclin C 하위군에 속하는 단백질로, cyclin-dependent kinase 9(CDK9)과 결합하여 positive transcription elongation factor b (p-TEFb)의 주요 서브유닛을 형성합니다.
이 복합체는 HIV-1 Tat 단백질의 보조인자로 작용하며, 바이러스 전사 활성화를 위해 필수적입니다. 또한 RNA polymerase II의 C-terminal domain 인산화를 통해 전사 신장을 유도합니다.
Cyclin T1 과발현은 종양 성장과 관련이 있으며, 대체 스플라이싱으로 여러 전사 변이체를 생성합니다.
