Cytoplasm, cytoskeleton, microtubule organizing center, centrosome.
Present in hyaline inclusion bodies in motor neurons from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) patients.
Also present in Lewy bodies in neurons from Parkinson’s disease patients.
Background
This gene encodes a member of the ring between ring fingers (RBR) protein family. The encoded protein contains two RING-finger motifs and an in-between RING fingers motif.
It functions as an E3 ubiquitin ligase localized to Lewy bodies and ubiquitylates synphilin-1, an interacting protein of alpha-synuclein in neurons.
The protein may be involved in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and Parkinson’s disease.
