Target Information
IL-6 is a cytokine involved in inflammation and B cell maturation. It acts as an endogenous pyrogen inducing fever in autoimmune diseases or infections. The gene is expressed at sites of acute and chronic inflammation, secreted into serum, and triggers transcriptional inflammatory responses via the IL-6 receptor alpha. IL-6 function is linked to various inflammation-associated diseases, including diabetes mellitus and systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. Elevated IL-6 levels are observed in viral infections such as COVID-19. Diseases associated with IL-6 include Kaposi Sarcoma and Systemic Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis.
