Product Specific Information

Recombinant rabbit Superclonal™ antibodies are unique offerings from Thermo Fisher Scientific. They consist of multiple different recombinant monoclonal antibodies, combining the sensitivity of polyclonal antibodies with the specificity of monoclonal antibodies, while maintaining lot-to-lot consistency.

Functionally, they recognize multiple epitope sites on the target, enabling high detection sensitivity for low abundance targets. Each lot can be produced with an identical population of light and heavy chains, eliminating biological variability typical of polyclonal antibody production.

Note: Formerly called “Recombinant polyclonal antibody”, this product is now rebranded as “Recombinant Superclonal™ antibody”. The physical product and performance remain unchanged.

Target Information

Occludin is a 65 kDa protein that can exist in multiple phosphorylated forms (up to ~82 kDa). It plays a role in regulating both localization and function of tight junctions. Polyunsaturated fatty acids up-regulate occludin expression, enhancing transendothelial resistance and reducing permeability to large molecules.

Expression levels vary by tissue: highly continuous at cell-cell contact sites in brain tissue, but lower and discontinuous in non-neural tissues. Structural features are conserved across species. Under-expression of occludin contributes to increased permeability in tumor endothelial junctions, associated with brain tumor edema.
