Target Information

The CDKN2A gene produces multiple transcript variants differing in their first exons.
At least three alternatively spliced variants encode distinct proteins, two of which act as inhibitors of CDK4 kinase.
Another transcript encodes the ARF protein, which stabilizes tumor suppressor p53 by sequestering MDM2, preventing p53 degradation.
Despite structural differences, both CDK inhibitor isoforms and ARF contribute to G1 cell cycle regulation.
This gene is frequently mutated or deleted in various tumors and functions as a key tumor suppressor.
