Product Specific Information

The monoclonal antibody LDK18 recognizes human Cytokeratin 18, a type I intermediate filament protein found in epithelial cells. Cytokeratin 18 pairs with cytokeratin 8 (type II) to form keratin filaments. It is commonly used as a tumor marker for identifying epithelial-origin tumors and metastases and is also expressed in proliferative retinal pigment epithelium cells.

Applications Reported: Suitable for microscopy, immunohistochemical staining, and immunocytochemistry.
Applications Tested: Tested by immunocytochemistry of MeOH-fixed human cells; recommended ≤1 µg/mL. Optimize concentration for best performance.

Filter Recommendation: For eFluor® 570 conjugates, use filters capturing the 570 nm emission (e.g., Excitation 545/25, 565LP, Emission 605/70). Compatible with standard Alexa Fluor® 555 or TRITC filters.

Target Information

Cytokeratin 18 (Keratin 18, KRT18, type I cytoskeletal 18) belongs to the acidic subfamily of low molecular weight keratins and pairs with cytokeratin 8. It is expressed in epithelial tissues of the gastrointestinal, respiratory, and urogenital tracts, as well as in endocrine and exocrine tissues. Found primarily in non-squamous epithelia, it is present in most adenocarcinomas and ductal carcinomas but not in squamous cell carcinomas. Hepatocellular carcinomas express only cytokeratins 8 and 18. Mutations in KRT18 have been associated with cryptogenic cirrhosis. Cytokeratin expression patterns aid in distinguishing epithelial malignancies and are useful in immunohistochemistry, cytopathology, and flow cytometry assays.
