Target Information
Regulatory subunit of the condensin complex, required for conversion of interphase chromatin into mitotic-like condensed chromosomes. The condensin complex introduces positive supercoils into relaxed DNA and converts nicked DNA into positive knotted forms in the presence of topoisomerases. CAP-D2 may target the condensin complex to DNA via its C-terminal domain and promote resolution of double-strand DNA catenanes between sister chromatids. It plays a crucial role in mitotic chromosome condensation during neurogenesis, affecting neuron pool and cortex size. [UniProt]
