Target Information

STAT1 (Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription 1) is a member of the STAT family of transcription factors. It is activated by interferons (α, β, γ), EGF, PDGF, and IL6, and regulates genes involved in cell growth, apoptosis, immune responses, and lipid metabolism.
STAT1 plays a key role in mediating cell viability under various stimuli and pathogen exposure. The STAT1 gene is located on chromosome 2.
Upon phosphorylation by JAK kinases, STAT1 translocates to the nucleus to regulate transcription.
Among the seven STAT family members, STAT1, STAT3, STAT5a, and STAT5b have broad activation profiles.
STAT1 is activated by multiple ligands including:

• IFN family (IFN-α, IFN-β, IFN-γ, IL-10)
• gp130 family (IL-6, IL-11, LIF, CNTF, G-CSF)
• Receptor tyrosine kinases (EGF, PDGF, CSF-1)

Two alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms of STAT1 have been described.
