Target Information
The anaphase-promoting complex (APC), also known as the cyclosome, is a large protein complex that promotes the metaphase-anaphase transition by ubiquitinating specific substrates such as mitotic cyclins and anaphase inhibitors, which are then degraded by the 26S proteasome.
Biochemical studies indicate that the vertebrate APC contains eight subunits, and its composition is highly conserved across species from yeast to humans.
Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
