Target Information
NKAT (NK-associated transcripts) gene products, known as killer immunoglobulin-like receptors (KIRs), downregulate NK cell cytotoxicity upon recognition of specific class I MHC molecules on target cells.
These receptors have two to three immunoglobulin-superfamily domains and a cytoplasmic domain containing an antigen receptor activation motif (ARAM).
KIRs and other inhibitory receptors possess a common cytoplasmic sequence (I/VxYxxL/V) known as ITIM (immunoreceptor tyrosine-based inhibitory motif).
Human inhibitory receptor KIR2DL3 (CD158b) is specific for human MHC class I molecule HLA-Cw3 and related alleles.
