Target Information

Caspase 8 (CASP8) is a cysteine-aspartic protease involved in apoptosis execution. It exists as an inactive proenzyme that becomes active through proteolytic processing, forming large and small subunits. Caspase 8 interacts with FADD via its death effector domain, playing a key role in Fas-mediated apoptosis and other apoptotic pathways. It has been implicated in neurodegenerative diseases such as Huntington’s disease. Overexpression induces apoptosis, which can be inhibited by ICE family-specific inhibitors. Multiple alternatively spliced isoforms exist.
