Product Specific Information

The 53-7.3 monoclonal antibody reacts with mouse CD5, a 67 kDa protein expressed by a majority of thymocytes, mature T cells, and a subset of B cells. CD5 expression on a small subset of B cells characterizes a distinct lineage called B-1 cells. CD5 acts as a counter-receptor for CD72, playing a role in T-B cell interaction.

Applications Tested:
Tested by flow cytometric analysis of mouse splenocytes. Recommended ≤0.125 µg per test (final volume 100 µL). Cell number should be empirically determined (10⁵–10⁸ cells/test). Titrate for optimal performance.

Target Information

CD5 is a 67 kDa human T-lymphocyte single-chain transmembrane glycoprotein expressed on mature T-lymphocytes, thymocytes, and many T-cell leukemias and lymphomas. It also reacts with a subpopulation of activated B-cells and may regulate T-cell proliferation. CD5 is found on 95% of thymocytes and 72% of peripheral blood lymphocytes, with main reactivity in T-cell areas of lymph nodes. CD5 dysfunction is associated with thymus cancer and Richter's Syndrome.
