Target Information
Machado-Joseph disease (MJD), also known as spinocerebellar ataxia-3, is an autosomal dominant neurologic disorder caused by expansion of (CAG)n repeats in the coding region of the Ataxin-3 (ATXN3) gene. The MJD protein interacts with transcription regulators such as CBP, p300, and PCAF, repressing transcriptional activity. It functions as a histone-binding and deubiquitinating enzyme. The number of CAG repeats inversely correlates with age of onset.
