Target Information
ZEB1 (Zinc finger E-box-binding homeobox 1) is a transcriptional repressor that inhibits interleukin-2 (IL-2) gene expression. It can enhance or repress the promoter activity of the ATP1A1 gene depending on cDNA quantity and cell type. ZEB1 represses E-cadherin promoters and induces epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) by recruiting SMARCA4/BRG1. It also represses BCL6 transcription in the presence of CTBP1 and regulates neuronal differentiation by repressing RCOR1 activation during neurogenesis. Mutations in ZEB1 can lead to corneal dystrophies such as posterior polymorphous and Fuchs endothelial dystrophy.
