Product Specific Information
This antibody reacts with CD14, a 53–55 kDa GPI-linked extracellular membrane glycoprotein expressed on monocytes, macrophages, and weakly on granulocytes. It is also expressed by most tissue macrophages.
In human, the epitope recognized by MEM-18 is located between amino acids 57–64.
- ELISA: Tested as the detection antibody in a sandwich ELISA
- Western Blot: Non-reducing conditions
- Functional Application: Blocking
Target Information
CD14 is a 55 kDa GPI-anchored glycoprotein constitutively expressed on mature monocytes, macrophages, and neutrophils. It serves as a multifunctional lipopolysaccharide receptor and is released into serum as both secreted and enzymatically cleaved forms.
CD14 binds lipopolysaccharide molecules via lipopolysaccharide-binding protein (LBP), an acute phase serum protein. The soluble form (sCD14) can discriminate structural differences among lipopolysaccharides and is essential for neutralizing serum lipopolysaccharides via lipoprotein particles.
Additionally, CD14 binds apoptotic cells and influences allergic, inflammatory, and infectious processes. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding the same CD14 isoform.
Diseases associated with CD14 dysfunction include Mycobacterium chelonae infection and Croup.
