Target Information
Histones are basic nuclear proteins responsible for the nucleosome structure of the chromosomal fiber in eukaryotes.
Approximately 146 bp of DNA wraps around a nucleosome composed of pairs of core histones (H2A, H2B, H3, H4).
Chromatin fiber is compacted through interaction of linker histone H1 with DNA between nucleosomes to form higher-order structures.
This gene, found in a histone cluster on chromosome 1, encodes a member of the histone H3 family.
Transcripts lack polyA tails and contain a palindromic termination element.
This record represents the telomeric copy among four duplicated histone genes in the cluster.
