Target Information
Histones are basic nuclear proteins responsible for the nucleosome structure of eukaryotic chromatin.
Each nucleosome consists of ~146 bp of DNA wrapped around an octamer of core histones (H2A, H2B, H3, H4).
Linker histone H1 interacts with DNA between nucleosomes to form higher-order chromatin structures.
The H3 gene is intronless, lacks polyA tails, and contains a palindromic termination element.
It is found in a histone cluster on chromosome 1, representing the telomeric copy among duplicated histone genes.
