This antibody is specific for murine CD25, the 55 kDa interleukin-2 receptor alpha chain (IL-2Rα).
CD25 is expressed by early progenitors of the T and B lineage as well as by activated mature T and B lymphocytes.
By itself, CD25 binds IL-2 only with low affinity. However, CD25 associates with CD122 (IL-2 receptor beta chain) and CD132 (common gamma chain) to form the high-affinity IL-2 receptor.
Binding of IL-2 to both the high and low affinity classes of IL-2 receptor is inhibited by the PC61.5 antibody.

CD25 (IL2 receptor alpha chain/IL2RA) is a cytokine receptor involved in the proliferation of T and B lymphocytes.
The IL2 receptor complex consists of IL2RA, IL2RB, and IL2RG chains, forming the high-affinity IL-2 receptor.
Homodimeric IL2RA chains result in low-affinity receptors, while IL2RB homodimers produce medium-affinity receptors.
IL2 expression in mature thymocytes is monoallelic, serving as a regulatory mechanism for precise gene expression.
IL2 is mainly produced by mature T cells and functions as a growth and differentiation factor, as well as a regulator of apoptosis.
It promotes B cell proliferation, enhances NK cell activity, and suppresses granulocyte macrophage colony formation.
Disruption of the IL2RA gene in mice leads to ulcerative colitis-like disease, highlighting its role in immune regulation.
Mutations in this gene are associated with interleukin-2 receptor alpha deficiency.
