Target Information
The c-Myc protein is a 62 kDa transcription factor encoded by the c-Myc gene on human chromosome 8q24. It is commonly activated in various tumor cells and plays key roles in cellular proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and cell cycle progression.
Phosphorylation at Thr58/Ser62 by kinases such as glycogen synthase kinase 3, cyclin-dependent kinase, ERK2, and JNK is functionally associated with cell proliferation and regulation.
c-Myc is essential for vasculogenesis and angiogenesis during tumor development. Deregulated expression of c-Myc induces apoptosis in various cell types.
Amplification or translocation of the c-Myc gene is observed in multiple cancers, including lung, breast, colon, and Burkitt’s lymphoma.
Antibodies against c-Myc epitopes recognize overexpressed proteins containing Myc tags fused to either amino- or carboxy-termini of target proteins.
