Target Information
The c-Myc protein is a 62 kDa transcription factor encoded by the c-Myc gene on human chromosome 8q24. It is commonly activated in various tumor cells and plays a crucial role in cellular proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and cell cycle progression.
Phosphorylation at Thr58/Ser62 by kinases such as glycogen synthase kinase 3, cyclin-dependent kinase, ERK2, and JNK is associated with cell proliferation and regulation. c-Myc is essential for vasculogenesis and angiogenesis during tumor development.
The c-myc oncogene (p62 c-myc) regulates normal cellular proliferation and differentiation, while deregulated expression induces apoptosis in diverse cell types. Antibodies against c-Myc epitopes recognize overexpressed proteins containing Myc epitope tags fused to target proteins.
Amplification of the c-Myc gene has been observed in lung, breast, and colon carcinomas; N-Myc amplification occurs in neuroblastomas. Chromosomal translocations involving c-myc are characteristic of Burkitt’s lymphoma and other B-cell lymphoproliferative disorders. Aberrant c-myc expression is found in tumors of various origins, including colorectal, gastric, hepatic, mammary, ovarian, pulmonary, and hematopoietic neoplasms.
