Target Information
CCDC22 is a coiled-coil domain-containing protein that binds copines, which are calcium-dependent membrane-binding proteins potentially involved in calcium signaling.
In rat, CCDC22 localizes in various brain regions including the prefrontal and somatosensory cortex, dentate gyrus, thalamus, and spinal cord motor neurons after sciatic nerve transection, suggesting a role in neuronal injury response.
The human CCDC22 gene has been identified as a novel candidate gene for syndromic X-linked intellectual disability (XLID).
