Product Specific Information
The monoclonal antibody mAID-2 recognizes human and mouse AID (Activation-Induced Cytidine Deaminase, gene AICDA). AID is a 24 kDa RNA-editing enzyme that converts cytosine into uracil, playing a critical role in B cell development through somatic hypermutation (SHM) and immunoglobulin class switch recombination (CSR).
Altered AID expression levels are associated with disease states. Mutations in AID cause Hyper-IgM Syndrome type 2, while overexpression correlates with poor prognosis in chronic lymphocytic leukemia/small lymphocytic lymphoma.
AID is expressed mainly by activated mature B cells, including germinal center (GC) B cells and intermediate GC cells (IgD+CD38-CD23-CD71+). It is also found in hepatocellular carcinoma, gastric epithelial cells infected with Helicobacter, oocytes, and embryonic stem cells. Due to its nuclear localization signal (NLS), expression occurs both in the nucleus and cytoplasm.

Target Information
This gene encodes an RNA-editing deaminase, a member of the cytidine deaminase family. It is involved in somatic hypermutation, gene conversion, and class-switch recombination of immunoglobulin genes. Defects in this gene cause autosomal recessive hyper-IgM immunodeficiency syndrome type 2 (HIGM2).
