Target Information
Contactin 2 (CNTN2, also known as transiently-expressed axonal glycoprotein, AXT, TAX, TAG-1, axonin 1) is a neuronal cell adhesion molecule (CAM) that plays a key role in axon connection formation during neural development.
It belongs to the immunoglobulin superfamily (IgSF) and contains:
- A glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI) anchor
- Six immunoglobulin-like domains
- Four Fibronectin type III (FNIII)-like domains
Contactin 2 is expressed mainly on axonal membranes, guiding commissural axons without promoting growth.
It interacts with NgCAM (cis-binding) and forms heterophilic (Contactin 2/NgCAM, Contactin 2/NrCAM) and homophilic (Contactin 2/Contactin 2) binding sites localized within specific Ig and FNIII domains.
