Target Information

The protein encoded by the PRG2 gene is the predominant constituent of the crystalline core of the eosinophil granule. High levels of its proform are present in placenta and pregnancy serum, where it forms complexes with proteins such as PAPPA, AGT, and C3dg.
This protein functions as a cytotoxin and helminthotoxin, contributing to antiparasitic defense and immune hypersensitivity reactions. It is implicated in epithelial cell damage, exfoliation, and bronchospasm in allergic diseases.
