Target Information

The PRG2 gene encodes the major basic protein, the predominant component of the crystalline core of eosinophil granules. High levels of the proform are found in placenta and pregnancy serum, where it complexes with proteins such as PAPPA, AGT, and C3dg. This protein functions as a cytotoxin and helminthotoxin involved in antiparasitic defense and hypersensitivity reactions, contributing to epithelial cell damage and bronchospasm in allergic diseases.
