Target Information
Synaptogyrins comprise a family of tyrosine-phosphorylated membrane proteins with two neuronal (SYNGR1 and SYNGR3) and one ubiquitous (SYNGR2) members. SYNGR1 and SYNGR3 are synaptic vesicle proteins, sometimes residing on the same vesicle, and are involved in regulating neurotransmitter release. SYNGR2 is absent from synaptic vesicles. The role and localization of SYNGR4 remain unclear.
SYNGR3 is predominantly expressed in brain and placenta and is involved in the positive regulation of dopamine transporter activity. It facilitates the interaction between the transporter and the dopamine vesicular storage system, allowing efficient vesicle loading with extracellular dopamine after release.
